As second time Woodloch guests we really felt like we were coming “home” to Woodloch this past weekend. Will couldn’t have said it better when we arrived and he said, “it feels really good to be back here at Woodloch.” As we pulled into the entrance and watched three deer grazing in front of the Main Lodge we had really arrived back home!

A Home Away From Home

During this trip I was trying to figure out what exactly about Woodloch causes so many people to regard it as their “home” away from home. After giving it some thought I have come to a conclusion. When you arrive at Woodloch you become part of the family. Their family traditions become yours!

Arriving “home.”

It Feels Like Home

The feeling of family runs deep throughout every facet of Woodloch. Woodloch Resort has a very interesting and rich history. When you are at Woodloch you feel as if you’ve come home. It’s no accident either!

I didn’t know this before visiting but according to the history on Woodloch’s website they note their secret to success, “Since our earliest beginnings, we have remained committed to a number of traditions, but by far the most important one is the way we treat our guests … ‘it’s as if they are company in our own home’ (our original mission). This is what sets Woodloch apart from other places” As repeat guests, I can attest that they certainly do live up to this tradition!

One of My Favorite Parts About Woodloch

One of my favorite parts about staying at the resort is how completely welcome our family has felt during both of our stays. The Kiesendahl and Woodloch family warmly greet you as you enter the Main Dining Hall. It’s as if you’re walking into a friends home for a family meal. As you enter they shake your hand, and you are home!

Cooking Out Like a Family BBQ

Both times we have stayed the Cook Out has been one of our favorite meals. Out on the lawn in front of the Main Lodge picnic tables and a barbecue lunch await you! Music plays, cold beer is served, and the meal ends with the most delicious ice cream sandwich you will ever eat!

The Woodloch Carnival

Immediately following the Cook Out is the Carnival. This year the theme was Woodstock. Everyone is given 10 tickets to play games and win prizes. This is a fun event for the whole family.

Food Not to Miss

All of the food at Woodloch is exceptional! The Scandinavian Pancakes are a Woodloch tradition that you do not want to miss out on! Also, be sure to try(and order to take home) their pastries. My favorites are the crumb cake and Mocha Chip Muffins!

We Can’t Wait to Return!

Woodloch has certainly carved out a special place in the heart of our family. We look forward to returning year after year and hope to one day look across the dining hall and see our children and their children laughing and experiencing the tradition of Woodloch!
